dealing with solid wastes. "Disposal’s not our only alternative. Often, particularly with hazardous wastes, it’s better to re-use, alter the product for another, beneficial use, or neutralize it.”
In regard to the updated Environmental Protection Agency regulations to be released this year, Ms. Bailey said that there would be little conflict. “They’re not doing this in a vacuum,” she said. “As they work on upgrading, we adjust and keep pace in Virginia. There won’t be tremendous disparities between the state and federal regulations for landfills."
In a short business meeting following the forum, RLEP members elected Werner Krebser, John Amberson, Butch Zindell and Marc Malik to their governing board. Members present expressed disappointment that more Rappahannock citizens previously involved in landfill issues did not hear Ms. Bailey’s remarks. Also absent were county government officials.
