October 1987 has again been officially declared National Woolly Bear Month in Hagerstown and Washington County, Maryland. The Hagerstown Almanack will sponsor the annual Woolly Bear Contest for the fifth consecutive year.

The contest begins Oct. 1 and the deadline for entries will be Oct. 31. The two categories once again will be the “Cutest and Cuddliest” and the “Biggest and Woolliest.” The person entering each winning candidate will receive $100 and the runners-up in each category will receive with our compliments six copies of the 1988 Almanack.

All entries should be sent or taken to Woolly Bear Headquarters which is located at 111 West Washington St., Hagerstown, Md. 21741.

Again, we would like to assure one and all who might be concerned about the welfare of the contestants, all needs are carefully attended to and, following the judging, they will be returned to a natural habitat on a lovely farm near Downsville.

We encourage all of you to keep your eyes peeled for outstanding examples of our furry friend and join
