rates decrease

Potomac Edison Company’s Virginia customers will be paying less for electricity following action recently by the State Corporation Commission (SCC). The SCC approved a base rate reduction of 4.34 percent or $2.6 million. The decrease became effective Sept. 1.

The average residential customer using 800 kilowatt hours of electricity a month will benefit from a decrease in the monthly bill of $1.80 or 4.2 percent. A residential customer using 2000 kilowatt hours a month will see a decrease of $4.50 or 4.5 percent.

In March the Commission initiated an SCC staff investigation of the company’s financial condition.
