ii you plan to retire at tne end ot the year, you should contact Social Security now about filing a retirement benefit application, said Bruce A. Hundley, Social Security manager in Culpeper.
Social Security retirement applications can be filed up to four months in advance. Most applications can be processed very quickly, but sometimes there are delays in locating necessary documents such as a birth certificate, Mr. Hundley said.
