border which could theoretically benefit from a similar boundary adjustment. If the county were forced into such a move, he told the committee, scores of new building lots not now allowed could be created.
The county, he said, is opposed to any action which might establish such a precedent.
The committee asked its legal counsel if such a lot line adjustment could be done by a memorandum of understanding between the two governments, rather than by ordinance amendment. However, County Attorney Peter Luke and Town Attorney Frank Reynolds both advised the committee that such a move was not the proper course, and recommended the action be taken by ordinance amendment.
Town planner Stewart Willis suggested that a solution might be fashioned by allowing land within the town and outside its limits to be combined for the purposes of creating a building lot. If the owner is then able to meet the minimum size requirement for whatever zoning district the land is in, a lot could be treated.
