James Kussell is hoping that his friends and neighbors will pitch in to help him complete his dream.
Two years ago, Mr. Russell, the owner of Horseshoe Hills restaurant on U.S. 211 west of Sperryville, started a memorial fund dedicated to Ronnie Pullen, a Sperryville resident who was killed in a construction accident in Fauquier County while working for the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Mr. Pullen was also a longtime softball and sandlot baseball player and spectator, who could often be found on the makeshift field next to Mr. Russell’s restaurant.
Mr. Russell decided that an improved stadium would be a fitting memorial to Mr. Pullen, and established the fund.
Now, the field has been upgraded and a backstop and screens constructed. There are bleachers in place behind home plate.
