The “Keep Virginia Green” Poster Contest is sponsored by Virginia Forestry Association and the Department of Forestry Stewardship Program with emphasis being on good caretakers of the forest with good management. Over $6,000 in prize money is available.

There will be 74 high school cash awards amounting to $1,400. Elementary students will be eligible for 387 awards amounting to $610 in cash. Also available to grades K-8 will be School Incentive Awards if the school holds a local judging of its posters. The amount of these cash awards will be based on the number of posters entered in the local judging.

The money can be used at the school’s discretion, most often to provide prizes to the local winners. This gives the students instant recognition for their efforts and the winning posters can then be displayed in the school prior to the Nov. 16 state contest deadline.
