“We feel very honored to be among the four out of five whose, proposals were accepted,” Librarian Diane Green said.
Other projects which received grants were a new main library for Appomattox County, a branch library at Broadway for Rockingham County and an expansion of a regional library in Clarksville. Fauquier County was the only applicant that did not receive approval for its request.
Bids from contractors for building the new library were due to be opened Wednesday. Once that process is completed, the Library Board will know whether enough funds have been raised to start construction of the building. Board member Mary Jamieson said, “I think we’re in the zone where we can commit enough to start.”
Mrs. Green said she remains concerned that patrons continue to help out the library financially. The grant money and funds raised so far will probably provide the building and its furnishings, she believes, but there will still be needs for landscaping, for paving the driveway, and for making up for state cutbacks for such things as monies for ordering books and magazines.
