RICHMOND — The “all-new” State Fair of Virginia lives up to its claim with * hat of new facilities, services.*** features to delight every taste, according to the organizers.
Fair officials unveiled a living history installation that traces five centuries of life in America; new maps, rest areas, information specialists and other aids to making one’s way around the fairgrounds in comfort and eryoyment; major new agricultural features, a new performance area featuring a show specially produced for the fair, an expanded horse show and armadillos.
The new features and facilities opening in 1990 are the first manifestations of a long-range plan developed by officials of Atlantic Rural Exposition, the fair's parent organization, to provide the major showcase for Virginia’s agriculture, business, fine arts, education and technology. This long-range plan also includes capital improvements to the fairgrounds that will total some $12 million.
American Heritage Village builds upon American Heritage Showcase, which was established on the fairgrounds in 1976. The village will eventually cover 11 acres on the fairgrounds, making it the facility’s largest feature. The exhibit, staffed by costumed volunteers who depict
