In the season opener against St. Anne-Belfield, the Panthers lost the game 6-2. Jason Henry and Ryan Welch scored the two Rappahannock goals.
In the second game, against Eastern Mennonite, Welch and Henry again got the offensive honors for the Panthers, although Rappahannock suffered an 8-2 defeat against the strong private school team. “They were a young team,” the coach said, “but sound on thenfundamentals. ”
Coach Tupper said that his young team is “gaining maturity” through game experience, a problem which has plagued the Panther soccer team since the program began. Without a junior varsity squad, some prospects arrive with little or no organized soccer background.
