The Middle Street Gallery, in conjunction with the current exhibit of visual art entitled “Sacred Cows” will also present video art and performance art entries.
The following videos will be shown upstairs at the Gallery each Saturday throughout the month of September:
“DiAna’s Hair Ego: AIDS Info Up Front,” a videotape by Ellen Spiro. Realizing the extreme inadequacy of local information on AIDS prevention, ,, cosmetologist DiAna DiAna, with her partner, Dr. Bambi Sumpter, took on the task of educating the Black community in Columbia, South Carolina. This provocative, funny and informative videotape documents the growth of the South Carolina AIDS Education Network which operates out of DiAna’s Hair Ego, DiAna’s beauty salon — where a condom display is as natural as a basket of curlers.
“Storme: The Lady of the Jewel Box,” a film by critically acclaimed director, Michelle Parkerson, is an intimate portrait of Storme DeLarvene, former MC j and male impersonator with the ? legendary Jewel Box RevueAmerica’s first integrated female impersonation show. . “First Fruits” choreographed by local dancer Sally Nash with music by Tom Espinola and Lorraine Duisit. The set and artwork are from the “Dreamwalk”
