activities and crafts of various eras, traces civilization on the American continent from the Indian settlements encountered by the first European colonizers, through furtrading encampments and the homesteading of the early pioneers, up to Yesteryear Arcade, a street of old time stores from the era 1880-1920.

Fairgoers can get a ride from the parking lots to the gates on the fair’s new courtesy trams, sponsored by WXGI Radio, B103.7-FM radio and the Virginia Lottery. Each tram will be staffed by a green-coated FanAmbassador to help orient fairgoers to the various attractions. These ambassadors, sponsored by Richmond Newspapers, also will be stationed at various points around the fairgrounds to answer questions,

Fair officials have made other changes to help visitors get around on the fairgrounds; new “user friendly” maps simplify attraction locations on the grounds, a brand new Flag Center, visible from most spots on the grounds, provides a central meeting place that includes benches for relaxing; and the Virginia Green area, which, while it features nearly continuous entertainment, also provides visitors with a pleasant place to sit and watch the fair go by.
