School Superintendent David Gangel told the School Baord that he is “99.99 percent sure” the school system will be receiving a federal grant of about $140,000 to work with “at-risk” students this year.
He said “at-risk” students could be those having difficulty with grades or with drug or alcohol abuse. “Any child with a problem is at risk,” he said.
A portion of the grant money can be used to replace local funds that covered salaries and fringe benefits for guidance counselors at both schools.
With $18,600 saved from local funds Dr. ■ Gangel said the school system will be able to replace funds cut from the current budget as “austerity measures.”
About $6,100 will be used for repair and replacement of equipment. Money will be added for field trips and so teachers and administrators can be reimbursed for travel.
