Col. Bingham made a motion that the county appropriate $2,000 to the Rappahannock Athletic Association. The county gave RAA $2,000 in the 1991 budget year, but the appropriation was cut from the current budget.
Col. Bingham said the youth baseball organization served 250 county children during the last season and had raised $15,000 on its own. He said the group had the unexpected expense of having fencing material stolen.
Piedmont District representative Charles K. “Pete” Estes noted that when the supervisors voted to spend $2,000 last year he had understood it would be available to all the youth sports organizations in the county, but when the soccer league representatives went to get some of the money they found it had all gone to Amissville.
Col. Bingham noted that RAA serves youth in the Sperryville area as well as Amissville.
Col. Bingham withdrew his motion, and the supervisors will explore how to distribute the money.
