The new Rappahannock County Library is dedicated and open to the public.
In a dedication speech, the chairman of the Library Board of Trustees, Dr. William Young, said the opening of the library “marks a beginning” in Rappahannock as the library “links the future with the past.”
Recognizing volunteers who were instrumental in the first library on Gay Street in Washington as well as those who built the new building, Dr. Young said he could “hand out accolades until nightfall” just mentioning all those who worked to make the event become more than a dream.
Guest speaker John Tyson, the Virginia state librarian, commended “the time, vision, and financial services” the community had put forth in order to make the dream of a library come true.
