Robert Darby was unanimously dominated as the Republican candidate for delegate in the 31st District, (during a convention at Warrenton Junior High School Sept. 5. ! Mr. Darby, a former businessman who lives in Rappahannock County, said, if elected, he would champion a healthy economy, attack state spending and push for education reform and funding.
Mr. Darby said his business experience gives him the necessary background for the kind of bargaining a delegate needs to succeed in Richmond. The financial training would also help him analyze state budgets, he said.
Mr. Darby said that the number of state employees is bloated and that it,was “necessary to stop it there.” Certain agencies could be consolidated to save on manpower, he said.
Mr. Darby said he would fight to restore school funding to previous higher levels. He went on to say schools could also be made more productive by teaching more rigorous
