Katherine Ewing “Kay” Slaughter, a native of the 7th District and an environmental advocacy lawyer from Charlottesville, was nominated by the Democratic Party to run against Del. George Allen during the 7th District convention in Culpeper Saturday.
Although her two Democratic opponents, Wilke Green and Dean Reed, had tried to force a “floor fight,” Ms. Slaughter simply had accumulated too many delegates too early, and was nom- * mated easily.
Ms. Slaughter had 128 votes (of the 141 she needed) by the time her hometown of Charlottesville threw their 25 behind her and Albemarle County added its 40 votes.
