To the Editor:
For the first time in over 50 years, we in Rappahannock County have the opportunity, on Nov. 5, to elect one of our own people to the Virginia House of Delegates. It will be for the seat of the new 31st District, composed of Rappahannock, Fauquier, and Warren counties.
Our candidate is Bob Darby of Woodville. We can expect him to be a worthy successor to George Beard of Culpeper and Andy Guest of Front Royal, who formerly represented us. These men exemplified the high ideals and standards of public service as a career. They were modest, painstakingly thorough and fully committed and devoted to their constituancy. Their reputation for ability and fairness extended far beyond our area. Bob Darby, of Woodville, can be expected to develop a similar reputation.
Mr. Darby was bom and reared in a small southern town close to Atlanta, thus giving him first-hand knowledge of the threat to small town and rural living from the pressures of big city development and urban sprawl. After graduating from the United States Naval Academy near the top of his class, he was selected to enter the demanding nuclear power submarine training program. Upon successfully completing the course he served for three years on nuclear submarines.
After completion of his Navy career, Mr. Darby and several associates founded a new business that soon achieved such success that over 200 employees were hired.
Thirteen years ago Mr. Darby and his wife, Trish, decided to make their home in the Northern Piedmont region of Virginia, in Fauquier County. A year ago they decided to move to Woodville in Rappahannock County for their permanent home.
