Hobson Jr.
The Rev. Jennings Wise Hobson Jr. died Thursday, Aug. 29, at his home in Old Church, Va. He was 71.
The son of Jennings Wise and Mary Berkeley Hobson, he was born in Bluefield, West Va., March 31, 1920. He attended the University of Virginia and was graduated from the Virginia .Theological Seminary, Alexandria, Va. in 1945.
Mr. Hobson served as chaplain at his alma mater, Episcopal High School (1945); in the mission field in Alaska (1945-1948); and Episcopal Church parishes in West Virginia at Bluefield (1949) and Nelson Parish near Charlestown (1949-1953). He also served in parishes in Virginia at Hanover Court House (1953-1957), Old Church (1953-1960), Madison Parish in Purcellville (1960-1969), Luray and the Page County Cure (1969-1982) and Mineral (1982-1985). He was on the staff of the Diocese of Virginia, working with candidates for the ordained ministry, from 1969 to 1985. He was also assistant director of the Middle Atlantic Parish Training Program for 25 years.
Mr. Hobson was an active volunteer fireman for over 25 years with departments in Hanover Court House, Purcellville, Luray and Mineral. He recently received his 30 year pin for membership in the Lions Club International and was a past president. He was also active in the Boy Scouts of America and
