As a result kindergarten classes have not had any physical education instruction except that provided by their regular classroom teacher, who has had to give up a planning period to do so. Also, second grade students have only had part of a period of physical education instruction with their teachers having to give up part of their planning periods to cover the class for the rest of the time.
Dr. Gangel said he wants to use some of the money to alleviate this situation and to pay a drivers’ education stipend to accommodate those students who can’t get behind the wheel drivers’ education during the school day. More students need drivers’ education than were expected when the budget was adopted, he said.
