are funded

The National Endowment of the Arts chairman John Frohnmayer expressed his view about citizens who do not approve of how he spends our tax dollars by saying he wishes “all those people who know nothing about art would stay . . . out of my business.” So much for a participatory democracy with his agency.
Chairman F rohnmayer’s art business recently gave $13,200 to help the Third Annual New York International Festival of Lesbian and Gay Films present a film entitled “Jesus Christ Condom.”
In the film, a character portraying Jesus Christ says, “My Mom (Mary) was a virgin and boy did she miss out.”
This is the “art business” with chairman Frohnmayer would prefer you to stay out of. Here is how the money got from you, the taxpayer, to the makers of “Jesus Christ Condom”:
• Step 1: You paid your taxe6 to IRS.
• Step 2: The Congress approved the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) funding as a government agency.
• Step 3: NEA gave $637,000 to the New York State Arts Council.
• Step 4: The New York State Arts Council gave $167,000 to Women Make Movies, Inc.
• Step 5: WMMI gave $12,000 to the New Festival, Inc.
• Step 6: The New Festival gave the $12,000 (plus $1,200 more from the New York State Arts Council to pay for the Festival’s movie guide) to sponsor the Third Annual New York International Festival of Lesbian and Gay Films.
