The Panthers played the Warrenton team to a scoreless tie until the final two minutes last week, when Jonathan Maeyer sent in a cross from the right wing onto the foot of senior center forward Jason Henry, who beat the opposing goalkeeper for the prevailing tally.
Coach Maeyer said three ninth-graders will be starting the season on the field: Maeyer, Shane Lambert and Paul Brown. A fourth ninth-grader, Jeff Holder, is expected to see playing time as well.
Three of the team’s players are exchange students: Carlos “Damien” Muriel, the team’s captain and starting center midfielder; Michael Moelants and Torsten Oppel.
