We want to thank the Rappahannock News for featuring our efforts in honoring academic students on the first day of school. We would also like to thank the businesses that provided discounts to our Rappahannock scholars. These include: the Rappahannock News, giving students a free paper when they appear in the paper; The Theatre at Washington, Va., offering a 50 percent discount on live performances presented by the theater; Cabin Fever Bookstore, 15 percent off; Country Manor, 10 percent off; the Beauty Box, 25 percent off haircuts; the Rappahannock National Bank, honor roll published in the newspaper; and F&M Bank, offering a young people’s account and free checking.
The Academic Scholar Program begun this fall at Rappahannock High has been a great success.
For the first time, in some cases, students have become really excited about making good grades.
Our goal in part is to make it “cool” to do well academically. Without the sponsorship of area businesses, this would not have been possible. Thanks from the faculty and students at Rappahannock High. RON VICKERS
