The United States Department of Agriculture has notified Virginia agriculture officials that tissue samples taken from a second cattle herd in Floyd County are postive for tuberculosis (TB) and as a result, Virginia will lose its TB-free status for its cattle industry for a minimum of two years.
Once the test results are published in the Federal Register within the next several weeks, Virginia will officially become a “modified accredited state,” according to J. Carlton Courter III, Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
