Wakefield Country Day School’s fall sports teams are off to a strong start.
The boys’ soccer team playing at home defeated Woodberry Forest Friday September 30, 7 to 2. David Brandt scored five of the goals and Tim Burke scored two. “Strong defense was exhibited by goalie Yogi Sulistyo and defenders Sey Shin, Andrew Nilan, Nick Konick and Thad Zimmer,” according to Coach Matt Vanderwoode.
On Saturday October 1 the cross country teams traveled to Seton to compete with Seton, Fredericksburg Christian, Notre Dame and Massanutten. The girls’ team placed first “with strong performances by Bridget, Kristin, and Elizabeth Hickson,” according to Coach Fred Chandler. The boys’ team placed second “with key efforts from Paul Hanshohn, Peter Hickson, Mark Zimmer, Colby Cowherd and Hong Joon Chun,” he reported.
On Tuesday, October 4 the boys’ soccer team racked up another victory at home defeating Wakefield School (Marshall) 5 to 1. Again David Brandt led the scoring with four goals. Paul Hansohn added the fifth.
