In Two-Car
Accident

A two-car traffic accident, which sent six people to Fauquier Hospital, occurred in front of Baldwin’s Grocery on Business U.S. 211 in Washington early last Sunday evening.
; According to Virginia State Trooper Wayne Sumner, who investigated the accident, both drivers were traveling eastbound. The crash took place when Wade William Frazier, 20, of Casanona tried to pass a car driven by Leonard Everett Towle, 35, of Marshall. Mr. Towle said that he had on his blinker to make a left hand turn into Baldwin’s to ask directions when he was hit by Mr. Frazier’s car.
Mr. Frazier had his girlfriend in the car with him, Emma Mae Riley, 15. In the Towle car were Mr. Towle’s wife, Aleta, and his parents, Everett Leonard Towle and Arlene Towle. Trooper Sumner said that Mr. Everett Towle was pinned in the back seat and had to be cut out with the jaws of life.
Rescue squads from Washington, Sperryville, Flint Hill and Amissville responded to the call, and all six people involved in the wreck were transported to Fauquier Hospital. Trooper Sumner said that everyone had cuts, bruises and scrapes, and that when he left the hospital Mr. Everett Towle was going into the operating room for surgery, possibly for internal injuries.
The Towle car was totalled, and there was $1,000 damage to Mr. Frazier’s car. Mr. Frazier was charged with reckless driving. |
Trooper Sumner said that he will be filing a highway hazard form with VDOT to have the highway center lines changed to solid lines, which i would not allow anyone to pass another vehicle along that stretch of road.
