The Board of Supervisors voted 4 to 0 with Chairman Hubert Gilkey abstaining to rezone Werner Krebser*s 4.1-acre Flint Hill Square development from village residential to village commercial.
Dr. Krebser asked for the rezoning in order to expand the shopping center to builcf more space for Blueridge Technologies which is renting about half of the existing building. When the development was originally built in 1986 it had a special use permit but did not require rezoning. With the Zoning Ordinance adopted later such a development does require rezoning.
Dr. Krebser proffered that the property would not be used for a service station or liquor store. He agreed to submit the final site plan to the Planning Commission for approval.
He said that he did not want to have any parking in the rear of the building, but building inspector Richie Burke said it might be required for handicapped parking.
Neighbors Peggy and John Ralph said they would not want the parking in back, and County Administrator John McCarthy said it might be possible to use a chair lift like the one in the Courthouse. The front of the building is handicapped accessible, but the back is on a lower level.
