The RCHS boys’ cross country team won easily over Clarke and Manassas Park last Wednesday. Mark Jenkins and Eddie Sause tied for first and second place overall at 18:28. * “They are starting to come together. The younger kids are realizing what it takes to win,” said Coach David van de Graaff. RCHS finished the meet with 27 points; Clarke had 39, and Manassas Park had 56.
Other runners finishing in the top 20 were R.J. White, seventh; Jeff Atkins, eighth; Jason Brown, ninth; Ray Atkins, 12th; and Mike Wolfe, 13th. For the girls, Caroline Baumgardner came in fifth, with a time of 27:05. The winner of the girls, from Clarke, finished at 23:38.
The next cross country meet was to be held Oct. 12 at Stonewall Jackson, against Clarke, George Mason, ’Manassas Park and Stonewall Jackson. The next home meet will be on Oct. 19 against Clarke and Page Co.
Both the varsity and junior varsity girls’ basketball teams lost twb games each this past week.
On Oct. 4, Luray beat the junior varsity team 25-19. “We had beat them earlier in the season and we should have won,” said Coach Emily Wingate. She said that Dawn Havstad, who had 13 points, shot well but the team had trouble getting the ball to her.
