The Sorghum Festival will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Satruday, Oct. 22 at the C.E. Smith Family Farm on Route 230 at Hood, behind Fairview Christian Church. Admission and parking is free.
This event centers around the centuries-old tradition of harvesting, squeezing, and cooking of sorghum to produce sorghum syrup (molasses) over an open fire. There will also be demonstrations of stone ground commeal and antique farm machinery, and free hayrides around one of the county’s most scenic farms.
A pancake and home-made sausage breakfast will take place from 7:30 to 11 a.m. The Fire Department Ladies’ Auxiliary will serve lunch from 11 a.m. Fresh sorghym syrup and commeal will be sold. There will also be a bake sale. The rain date is Oct. 29. f
