The Governor’s Commission on Champion Schools will be holding a series of public hearings around the state to discuss with the public how to improve education in Virginia, i Del. Jay Katzen, R-31st District, is a member of the commission and chairman of the subcommittee on funding.
At each of the hearings members of the public and commission members will split up into eight informal focus groups.
The eight focus groups will cover (1) Academic Standards and Testing; (2) School Discipline and Safety; (3) Parental and Community Involvement; (4) School Administration; (5) Professional Standards; (6) Educational Alternatives; (7)Funding, and (8)Transition to Work and Student Support Services.
Meetings will be held from 7-10 p.m. Thursday Oct. 13 at Annandale High School; and from 7-10 p.m. Monday Oct 17 at Wayland Elementary School in Rockingham County.
