And so it must have seemed when Chuck Raney, an airline pilot, now retired, and his family came to the apple country of Rappahannock and planted a few grape vines in 1967.
Now, the wine industry is well established in Virginia, but then, in the middle of apple country, the whole idea of a vineyard seemed a little farfetched. Determination won out and Farfelu became Virginia’s first licensed winery.
