In the game against Central last Thursday, not only did the team lose 51-5, but player Erica Beaver sustained an injury. Coach Wingate said that Erica strained her knee and will be out for a couple of weeks.
Central is a tough team and is second in the district. They also defeated the varsity team, 87-16. Despite the loss, Coach Laura Conklin is pleased with her team. She said that the Central coach told her that her team is playing a lot better than in the beginning of the season. “For the other coach to recognize that is really good,” she said.
“It was Susan Jewell’s game. She had seven points and seven rebounds. She was very much alive for that game, and I was proud of her,” said Coach Conklin.
The game against Luray on Oct. 4 was a lot closer, but Luray beat the varsity 47-33. Coach Conklin said that the main problem that night was that the players were not boxing out and getting the rebounds. She felt her team could have won if they had hustled more on defense.
High scorers for the game were Jessica Arnold with 13 points; Janet Hitt with seven; and Susan Jewell and Sarah Gentry with four each.
The next games will be at Brentsville this Thursday and at home against Stonewall Jackson next Tuesday.
