All county Constitutional Officers except Clerk of the Court Diane Bruce are up for reelection this November. Only Sheriff John Henry Woodward is opposed in this election. The Rappahannock News sent a questionaire to him and challenger Gary Settle.
Besides asking for their education and law enforcement background they were asked the following questions:
1. Why do you believe you are or will be a good Sheriff?
2. What do you believe are the strengths of the current Sheriffs Office?
3. What do you believe are the weaknesses of the current Sheriffs Office?
4. What challenges do you expect the Sheriffs Office to face in the next four years?
They were also asked to evaluate the emphasis in the office currently in various areas as getting “Not Enough,’’“About Right,” or “Too Much.” The areas were traffic control, drug enforcement, drug education, domestic violence, criminal investigation, timely response, keeping costs down, community relations, and training of personnel.
Not surprisingly, Sheriff Woodward rated all these areas as getting the emphasis “About Right.” Mr. Settle rated traffic control as getting “Too Much” emphasis and all other areas as getting “Not Enough” emphasis.
