ARB member Dwight Matthews said that he had no problem with the application itself, but he was concerned with the encroachment on the Sisk house. “There is a question about whether that encroachment is a problem,” he said.
Mr. O’Connell explained that the - property is now zoned commercial and it is very unlikely that the Sisk house would be turned back into a single family house. “Our original idea was to move both the houses (the Sisk house and the house next to it on Main St.) but it was too much for the town to digest,” he said.
Mr. Matthews said he felt the design of the expansion was totally dependent on the Sisk property in order for it to work. ARB chairman Ed Barton said that he felt it was not within he purview of the ARB to discuss the Sisk House. “
Mr. Q’Connell assured Mr. Matthews that it would be in the best interest of the Inn to make the Sisk house look beautiful, and hopes that the Sisk house will look like a carriage house or gardener’s house next to The Inn. “I hope that after 18 years people have enough trust in us that something calamitous would not happen to this house,” he said, adding that the average developer would have obliterated the house.
Mr. Matthews still stood his ground, saying that the encroachment on the Sisk house is a non-acceptable encroachment. He voted against The Inn’s application, and the rest of the board voted in favor of it. ^ To comply with the ARB, an application was filed for the Middle Street Gallery to paint the outside of the gallery. Before the application was made, the gallery was painted using colors that were not on the list of approved colors. The ARB voted to approve the application, decided the colors were appropriate, and added them to the town’s list of approved colors.
