To the Editor: On Oct; 1 a St. Judes

To the Editor:

On Oct; 1 a St. Judes Bike-a-Thon was held on Dearing Road near Flint Hill.

The day was beautiful, a little nip in the air but just enough sun and a little breeze to make it a near perfect day.

There was only one thing that could have gone wrong. No Riders! Where were they? Was it too perfect a day? Was it the football game? Well, that was being played via radio at two water stands. Was it the Fall Festival at Sperryville?

Well, we had prizes; thank<i to Mrs. Patti Brown in Flint Hill for donating three prizes for the top three riders. We also had a door prize to be awarded to anyone who helped or rode in the Bike-a-Thon, an autographed football from the Redskins.

Although we only had two sponsored riders, Amanda and Bobbie Jo Brown, they happily raised $280 and rode a total of 13 miles in two hours. My special thanks to Zack Corbin for helping and adding two hours to his Boy Scout community service obligation, also to Ed Clark, Bobby Brown, and Tanya Bass for helping with the check points.

Prize winners were Amanda Brown, top rider, Bobbie Jo, second and Zack Corbin, third for being committed to his community service.

The autographed football went to Bobby Brown.

St. Jude’s Hospital deserves a lot of support from all communities. They never turn a child away who had cancer, Aids or any other life threating disease for any reason. All of this is at no cost to the parents. Being a parent of two children I sincerely admire their dedication and never ending ability to treat all the little children.

The Bike-a-Thon is an annual event, so next year please find it in your hearts to participate and feel good about helping such a wonderful cause.
