Joe Williams, who lives on Route 660 in Chester Gap, reported on Oct. 9 that a 32-foot heavy duty ladder worth $150 was stolen from his yard. v Betty Doles of Route 616 in Castleton reported last Friday that when she got home it appeared that someone had tried to get into her basement door, she said nothing had been taken.
John Cadwalader of Woodville reported last Friday that someone had dumped trash alongside Route 621 by the Covington River. Dep. Richard Hunter of the Sheriffs Office found out who the trash belonged to and called them to come and clean it up, which they did.
Norman Vest, 60, of Huntly, did $2,000 damage to his 1991 Ford 4door on the afternoon of Oct. 9. According to a report filed by Virginia State Trooper Chuck Moore, Mr. Vest was travelling east on U.S. 211, .2 mile east of U.S. 522, when he ran off the right side of the road, struck the guard rail, veered off the road and struck another guard rail. Trooper Moore arrested Mr. Vest for driving under the influence.
