ber music ensembles throughout the United States and Europe. Kenneth Slowik is a founding member of the Smithsonian Chamber Orchestra. His discography as cellist, viola da gamba player, and conductor contains over fifty recordings, many of them prizewinners.
The Smithsonian Chamber Music Program has inspired warm critical response and a devoted audience following through its performances and recordings on original instruments, many of them drawn from the Smithsonian’s own distinguished collection. This season, the Smithsonian performers will present four chamber concerts at the Theatre at Washington. Other dates in thi§ Smithsonian at Little Washington series are Dec. 2, Jan. 20 and March 23. Each 8 p.m. program will be preceded by a pre-concert talk beginning at 7:30. Since the Bach program includes a cello suite which for scordatura, or intentional mis-tuning of the instrument, director Slowik will discuss the extensive use of this curious technique from the Baroque period to the present.
