The Scholastic Book Fair will be held at the school library from Thursday, Oct. 19, through Wednesday, Oct. 26. Hours the first day, which is also parent teacher conference day, are 8:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. Other days the hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Costumed storybook characters will be visiting the library. Proceeds from the fair help the school library generate important funds for purchasing books and supplies. The books selected include winners of prestigious state and national awards and books that excite and motivate students to become lifelong readers. Come and bring your camera.
Giant and Safeway receipts can be dropped off at the Rappahannock National Bank, Rappahannock Farmers’ Coop, l^ackley’s Store, the Rappahannock County Library, the foyer of the Post bffice in Flint Hill and RCES. Thanks in advance.
Lots of learning has been going on in the classrooms as well. In Mrs. Ebom’s second grade class children have been learning about vowels and citizenship. Smokey the Bear visited the class on Oct. 4.
Miss Wingate’s 4th grade class has been researching Egypt and making mummies.
Mrs. Way’s 5th grade Social Studies class has been studying prehistoric man. They brought natural materials they collected from outside and did cave painting with berries, mud, and leaves. The students also macfe artifacts including bows and , arrows, sling-shots, pots out of clay, tableware and forks and spoons.
Miss Tower’s 7th grade Social Studies class have just completed research projects on famous women. The reports could either be given orally in groups or videotaped by the group and shown to the class on TV.
