John McCarthy, Rappahannock County Administrator, presented the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors’ agenda for the Virginia Legislature to Delegate Jay Katzen (R-31st) in December. This month they adpoted a revised agenda. Katzen said he will support initiatives involving water quality made by Governor Allen that would clarify the 1997 fund to include more non-point pollution grants. The existing fund is limited to publicly . owned sewage plants, he said. He added that he will support an increase in the $60 million record amount for funding efforts to clean up the Chesapeake Bay and to keep the Rappahannock River clean.
Katzen said he will introduce a bill to add Rappahannock County to the list of 26 localities that allow circuit court clerks to accept credit cards for payment of fines and costs.
He supports lottery funds being returned to the county where the tickets were sold to be used for education, one of the items Rappahannock had on its agenda that would greatly benefit the county if passed. The new formula that is just out for the composite index funding formula for education will increase in Rappahannock, said Katzen.
