The Woodards want people to spend the day in Sperryville and are installing walkways to the river where they plan to have the honeysuckle cleared, provide areas to fish and to play Frisbee. “We want to encourage pedestrian traffic to town,” said Martin, “where people can shop in different stores, eat and even hike to the National Park without crossing the highway. This can be a central place to park.” He added, the solution to the parking problem is to promote pedestrian traffic.
The entry will serve as an information area for the village and local points of interest. There are some historically interesting buildings in Sperryville, such as the Faith Mountain store which was once the home of the doctor who operated on Stonewall Jackson.
“No place in town can make families as welcome as we can,” said Gore. “People come every year to shop, to buy apples and to see the leaves.
