RAAC will show the hit movie, “Seven Years in Tibet* at The Theatre on Gay Street, Friday, Jan. 16 at 8 p.m.
“Seven Years in Tibet” is an account of Austrian mountaineer and Nazi-party member Heinrich Harrer. Late in the story, which takes Harrer to Tibet in the latter stages of World War II, Mao Zedong’s troops invade the mountainous nation with unequivocal and unprovoked brutality. There is nothing fictional about this 1949 invasion, or China’s subsequent rape and desecration of the culture, its Buddhist beliefs and its people (more than one million have been killed since the invasion), which continues today. His .Holiness the Dalai Lama, Tibet’s spiritual and bona fide leader who figures largely in the story has remained in exile since 1959.
