Citizens of Rappahannock
County are, for the most part, cognizant of the environment. They realize that the ownership of property has less to do with possession than with care taking — the careful stewardship of the land and its inhabitants.
An egregious rape of the land is underway on Laurel Mills Road, Route 618. Approximately 280 acres is being logged. Not only logged, but clear-cut! Two hundred eighty acres!
This is a tremendous deforestation and loss of habitat. Wildlife will suffer. Without vegetation cover there will be erosion, sediment run-off and siltation of our streams.
The ecosystem destroyed and the beauty which was once part of Route 618 will not return in our lifetime.
