Two of the most appealing works of art are from Jeanne Drevas’ hands. The first, called “Second Coming,” a mixed media mummy figure with a halo is mounted in a depressed surface that looks like a piece of rusty metal. Here is an icon with multi-cultural characteristics and haunting beauty.
Jeanne’s other piece is an exquisitely mounted linoleum print of acrylic and gold leaf, “Remembering Jim Thompson.” This homage to the vanished popularizer of Thai arts and crafts is an appropriate statement in these days of Thailand’s troubles. The subject of the picture is a 25 times-repeated image of a miniature Buddha.
