Kene Kultner, a surrealist artist, has made two paintings unlike any in style to those in his solo exhibition some time ago. One is a roughly textured oil image of myriad colors, a head, “Faust,” whose sardonic and distrustful glance strikes one unforgettably. It is as interesting to study close up, an almost bas relief surface, as to see it from a distance. The other, entitled, “Small World,” pictures what is perhaps a crouching child-like angel pointing to a little globe. Behind the figure are slabs that could be tombstones.
