This week the county will say goodbye to an outstanding
law enforcement officer, a dedicated
public servants skilled professional and a friend and neighbor to many (in the best sense of those words).
Major Rick MacWelch of the Rappahannock Sheriff’s Office has accepted a job as the new police > chief for Middleburg.
By the time this paper is out he will have been sworn in there and saying his goodbyes to everyone here. We can only hope he’ll visit from time to time to catch us up.
The shoes he leaves at the sheriff’s office will be 1 * hard to fill. He has, under the guidance of ■ r Rappahannock Sheriff Gary Settle, molded the inves-V tigative department there into a close knit and highly efficient team who will carry on in his absence — indeed they already are doing so.
We wish him well. We’ll miss him and so will the county.
