The case of Rodger William Bottomley, who had allegedly stolen used car parts and batteries from B&B Service Center last year along with his brother Richard Allen Bottomley, finally came to trial before a jury last week in Circuit Court.
The brothers, whose cases are being tried separately, were arrested in October ‘97 for grand larceny and illegal trespass. Luther Stanley who lives next to B&B said he saw the brothers and another man drive behind B&B on Sunday, Oct. 19, 1997 and take batteries and other items from the area in back of the business. He said he has a clear view of the area and since it was a Sunday he was home watching television and consequently in front of the window of his home.
He used binoculars to get a closer look and to get the license number of the vehicle, a green Ford pickup. Stanley told the jury that he knows Mike Brown, owner of B&B, well and knows all the employees and their vehicles. He called Brown and told him what had happened and gave him the license number.
