“Through contacts,” Call said, “we’ve developed special relationships. They tell me what they need and we try to grow it.” Call also raises beef, dwarf and meat rabbits, and has earthworms, for sale in response to buyer demand.
One of the biggest improvements to the retail side of the business, said Call, was adding new wife Etta to the sales force. “She’s the Stand Queen, with full responsibility for staffing and running the operation. It’s been a wonderful experience having someone who really gets involved in the sales organization.”
With all the rain, the Muskrat Haven berries are filling out and ripening fast. Strawberry-picking season opens in about a week.
