Local bicyclists took part in a benefit ride that covered the entire 105-mile Skyline Drive on May 2-3. The ride was planned by the Men’s Brotherhood of Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church to aid Steve ahd Melody Young.
Young, a former Rappahannock resident and deacon and Sunday School teacher at Reynolds, has leukemia for the second time. Just over 7-years-ago he had a bone marrow transplant. After a miraculous recovery, he and his wife Melody returned to work, bought a home in Orange County and resumed life.
When a different form of leukemia struck Young again, he began treatment at the University of Virginia hospital. He now awaits a donor lymphocyte infusion at John Hopkins Hospital, which, if all goes well, will take place in the next six weeks.
