An intensely practical man. Call researched the various farming options, but, he said, “It was obvious they wouldn’t support a family on a small farm basis.” After attending seminars offered by the state agricultural Direct Marketing Association, he recognized the simplicity and cost-effectiveness of pick-your-own production and marketing. “They brought in vendors (of farm chemicals and equipment). Some of the growers had displays. There were classes and networking. It gave us insight in the direction we needed to take.”
