lhe bike tour was planned along the winter-storm damaged Skyline Drive which was compared to the devastation that the Young family has experienced through the reoccurrence of the deadly disease. Bikers asked for pledges per mile or flat rate contributions to support the two-day, strenuous trip. Five bikers were able to make the ride. They included Men’s Brotherhood leader and organizer of the event, Warren Collins, as well as Linda Coit, Bob Lucking, Sam Dwyer and 15-year-old Chad Heddleston.
A highlight of the event was when the Young’s and their Sons, Thomas and Daniel, were able to meet bikers when they stopped to camp at Big * Meadows Campground. The weather was cool and somewhat rainy, especially on the first day of the ride. Melody Young later said,”I felt so bad that it was wet and cold, but very appreciative that people would do this for us. They are a great group of people.”
Carol Lucking was instrumental in gathering support by the local restaurants for meals for the bikers as well as doing other organizing. William • Collins, Jon and April , Heddleston, served as support . vehicle drivers. Thanks is extended to these restaurants and businesses for their contributions to the ride: Appetite Repair Shop and Mountainside , Market in Sperryville, Skyland Lodge, The Bike Stop in >■ Culpeper, and Giant Food Store in Warren ton.
